five Tips for Writing a Thank You Note

To this day, going to the mailbox is one of my absolute favorite things - now of course all the bills and advertisements have really cluttered up my real reason for going, but I'm pretty sure there is nothing better than opening a hand written letter. I still remember sitting at the kitchen table with my brother after Christmas (for what felt like DAYS) writing thank you notes to each and every family and friend who graciously gave us a gift. Back then, I dreaded it - not going to lie - but now - when I stop, take the time to sit down and actually write a heartfelt "thank you" it brings life to my bones. It changes my perspective entirely and allows me to grow in real gratefulness.
five Tips from KBE on writing a Thank You Note:
1. Order pretty paper (!!!) Personalized stationary is in my opinion one of the best gifts you can ever give someone and why not order your very own so that you are proud to be sending your note, whenever that time may be! Holly Hollon has designed our entire families stationary and is worth every. single. penny. She has some great semi-custom options available at Dogwood Hill. Reminds me I need to order Knoxy some soon!
2. Don't wait. The days - especially with little ones at home can sometimes seem so loooooong but somehow time seems to simultaneously slip away - so write it on your checklist, carve out the time and just do it - preaching to the choir over here.
3. Have a designated spot for writing your note - whether its at your desk, cuddled up in a club chair, or outside in a lawn chair - grab a cup of your favorite drink (hot lemon water in my case) and ENJOY the process. View it as a "break" you won't regret it.
4. Pray for that person before you start writing. I am always amazed at what personal connection, memory or story the Lord brings to mind when I begin writing. Starting with prayer and asking the Lord to bring to mind encouraging and thoughtful words will make all the difference, in your own heart and hopefully the recipient of your letter as well!
5. Make it memorable. Whether its re-telling a story, reminiscing about an old memory, using a quote from a book you are currently reading - or like my husband - inserting a good ole dollar bill - do something "extra". If you are taking the time to write a note - make it memorable - step 4 really helps with step 5 by the way ;)
Happy writing friends!!!!
